High Performance MTB Team Training in the Sea to Sky

In spite of COVID-19 restrictions, Cycling BC’s High Performance targeted athletes in the Sea to Sky and Lower Mainland regions have had a very successful off-season.

This March spring break has provided an opportunity for our coaches to give our athletes the extra time and opportunity to focus on their riding technique, decision-making skills, and build their base fitness level up more than ever before at this point in the year.

“I am truly impressed at the progress being made by these riders. They are extremely capable technically and are determined climbers,” said Joel Harwood, one of Cycling BC’s Regional Mountain Bike Coaches for the High Performance Program. “In just four days we covered nearly 150km, on all kinds of terrain, while working on tactics and decision-making every step of the way.”

Coach Joel was joined by one of Cycling BC’s other mountain bike coaches, Evan Guthrie. Coach Evan’s knowledge and experience as a well-rounded, world-class cyclist was a welcome addition to the camp where the athletes benefited from the extra coaching.

There are several training sessions on the calendar for this spring 2021 where the athletes will continue to focus on their tactical skills, endurance, and race simulations.

When racing finally does resume, it is a sure thing that these young athletes will be ready to roll.

Cycling BC’s High Performance Programs provide opportunities for athletes to optimize their potential in sport through Cycling BC training camps, coaching, race projects, educational opportunities, grants, and enhanced services. Learn more about the High Performance Program.
