BC U17/Juniors Bring Home National Titles and Valuable Experience from Track Nationals

The Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton hosted the 2025 Canadian National U17 and Junior Track Cycling Championships between April 4-6, featuring some of the nation’s fastest young track cyclists.

The velodrome was filled with nearly 90 athletes, including several up-and-coming track athletes from British Columbia, returning champions looking to replicate their success from 2024, and emerging talent from Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec.

“The 2025 junior track champs surpassed all expectations. From the electric energy in the velodrome to the remarkable talent on display, this event highlighted the depth and potential of Canada’s next generation of cyclists. We’re incredibly proud of every athlete, coach and volunteer who made this championship such a resounding success,” says event organizer Jacob Graper.

Athletes from BC were definitely in the mix of competition all weekend long, including Grace Edwards from West Vancouver and West Pollock of North Vancouver, who secured the newly designed Canadian National Championship jersey with wins in the U17 Women’s Scratch Race for Grace and the Junior Men’s Sprint & Kilo Time Trial for West.

Damian Babul (Red Kilo) of Vancouver won silver in the U17 Men’s Keirin and bronze in both the Scratch and Sprint events. Tendo Mukahanana (Tripleshot Cycling) of Victoria won silver in the Junior Women Sprint Final. Several of the athletes joined forces with their BC cohorts or athletes from other provinces for the team events and found their way to medal finishes, including a silver in the Junior Men’s Team Sprint for the all-BC team of West Pollock, Amos Scott Bouris (PNW Racing), and Cohen Vigliotti.

“It was a great weekend of riding; everyone was riding strong and flying the BC colours proudly,” said Tara Mowat, Cycling BC’s Athlete Development Manager. “The support and encouragement the team showed for one another was exceptional. What we accomplished this weekend was truly a result of teamwork. These projects offer fantastic opportunities for our experienced athletes to mentor newer athletes, helping them learn and grow.”
