2013 Canada Summer Games

MTB Selection Policy

Competition Dates: August 3-8, 2013

Participants: 3 Female, 3 Male

Races: XC, Relay, Sprint

 

Eligibility Criteria

Long List

-All 2013 Cycling BC provincially carded athletes who meet Canada Summer Games (CSG) eligibility requirements are automatically entered into the long list pool

 

Short List

-Selection based on points system over the best 2 results from the below events to rank riders. Up to 6 female and 6 male riders will be chosen to the short list.

Selection Events

April 14, Island Cup XC, Cumberland.

All Women must race  in the Intermediate Category and all Men must race in the Expert Category.

 

April 21, Island Cup XC, Cobble Hill.

All Women must race  in the Intermediate Category and all Men must race in the Expert Category.

 

April 27, Sunshine Coaster.

All riders must race the short course event for selection purposes.

 

May 26, Island Cup XC, Campbell River

All Women must race  in the Intermediate Category and all Men must race in the Expert Category.

 

Points System: Top 10 score points: 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Short Listed athletes will be invited to a Pre-Canada Cup Training Camp at Sun Peaks in June (date TBA) and compete with Team BC at Canada Cup #3, July 6, Sun Peaks.

Final Team Selection

-The first male team spot shall be discretionary, as chosen by the 2013 Canada Games Head Coach (or designate). This discretionary selection will take into account past performances, unforeseen events during the year (e.g. Injury, or competing at international events) that impeded the ability of an athlete to compete and/or attain results at the selection events listed. Results at the 2012 Provincial and/or National Championships and Canada Cups will also be taken into account as a basis of these discretionary selections.

The final three female and two male spots will be selected based on results at Canada Cup #3, July 6. Athletes will be ranked at this events based on their  two best lap times in the likely event that we have junior and U-23 athletes (racing separate categories) in the selection pool.

Final Team will be named on July 10, 2013

 

Alternate Athlete Selection:

– 1 Male and 1 Female alternate will be named based on overall points based on results all selection events in  2013.

 

NOTES:

Selection to the 2013 Canada Summer Games MTB Team does not guarantee Cycling BC AAP, and/or HP program funding.

Cycling BC reserves the right, in extenuating circumstances, to modify the 2013 Canada Summer Games Road Cycling Team Selection Criteria as it deems necessary where a criteria for selection event is no longer deemed appropriate. Extenuating circumstances may include, but are not limited to non-competitiveness of a selection event. In the event that the Selection Criteria is modified, Cycling BC will promptly post an announcement on its website announcing the changes.
