Athlete Spotlight: Sean Fincham

Sean Fincham has been with the Mountain Bike High Performance team since 2014, when he competed in his first XCO Nationals in U17, capturing the bronze medal.  This past season he narrowly missed out on the Junior podium, taking 4th place, but securing a spot as a first year Junior to represent Canada at the Mountain Bike World Champs where he finished 47/89. Here’s what Sean has to say about his post-World’s season:

After World Champs I took a couple weeks off the bike and spent time with my family and friends. I have used this time off to relax and just shut my mind off to racing. Recently I have been doing some hiking and skiing around Squamish and Whistler which I really enjoy. I believe that mixing it up with your activities is important for staying fresh on the bike.

I did a few fun local rides/events because I always love to ride, especially on my home turf. I started my training in October and I am gearing up for the upcoming 2016 season. This year I will be working on my strength training and bike skills to hopefully fill some gaps I noticed at World’s.

My 2016 season is looking busy and full of races. It is an early season due to the Olympics. I will be training with the National Team and Cycling BC. I am hoping to race in the Junior World Series races in Europe in the spring. My goals for the season are to be the Junior National Champion and place in the top 15 at World Champs in the Czech Republic.

My advice for people training/racing is to keep biking and have fun. I also feel it is important to lead a balanced life and never give up!

I would like to thank Norco bicycles, my local bike shop, Republic Bicycles, and my coaches, friends, and family.
