Gillian Ellsay Track World Championships Update

Cycling BC High Performance team athlete and Trek Red Truck team member Gillian Ellsay joined Team Canada at the Junior Track World Championships last month in Astana, Kazakhstan. We caught up with Gillian about her time there:

Last month I had the honour of representing Canada at the junior track World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. The experience was unreal and the lessons learned were priceless. I raced two events while there: the points race and individual pursuit.

The 80-lap points race was fast and furious, and extremely nerve racking. After crashing in the first 15 laps it was about controlling my adrenaline and anger for the remainder of the race to try and pick up as many points as possible. I finished the race with a less than satisfying 10th place. But I was able to turn it around in the individual pursuit with a best time by 3 seconds and a 14th place finish.

Today was my final training session to get dialed for Road World Championships in Richmond, Virginia. I’m extremely excited to get to race on the world stage in the time trial and road race.

The amount of support I have received over the last year has been overwhelming, and it is without a doubt I would not be in this position if it hadn’t been for numerous sponsors, mentors and organizations. To name a few; Cycling BC, Trek Red Truck p/b Mosaic Homes, Canadian Sport Institute, Cycling Canada, my coach Jeff Ain, Richard Wooles, and my family.
