Nanaimo, BC was the host city for the 2014 BC Cyclocross Championships held on October 13. 250+ of BC’s top riders made the journey to race the challenging course, designed by Vancouver Island’s cyclocross guru, Norm Thibault.

With the threat of heavy rain in the forecast, the early start groups got their races done on a firm, technically fast course. But when the elite men and women lined up to start, torrential rains turned the course into a slick, muddy, epic survival-of-the-strongest, the way a cyclcocross championship should be.

In the elite women’s category, it was Mical Dyck, Stan’s No Tubes, who took the lead right from the start and was able to hold off the hard charging Sandra Walter, Liv Canada, for the win. On the elite men’s side, it was Craig Richey, Trek Red Truck p/b Mosaic Homes, who continued his domination in cyclocross with another victory, adding a BC Championship jersey to his successful season.

With over 40 youth racers and a full complement of Master riders, spectators were entertained with great racing throughout the day. Full results are available here.

Cycling BC would like to thank Norm Thibault, the commissaires, and all the volunteers, for helping make a successful event.
