The Global Syndicate of Mountain Bike Coaches (GSMBC) and Cycling BC are excited to announce their shared commitment to developing mountain biking sport leaders by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that recognizes the GSMBC Level 1 and Level 2 Certification towards parts of Cycling BC’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
The MOU enables individuals with GSMBC Level 1 Certification to forgo one of two outdoor modules required for Cycling BC’s NCCP Club-Assistant Coach pathway; Individuals with GSMBC Level 2 Certification can forgo both, fast-tracking their way along the NCCP Community or Competition pathways.
This agreement enables both organizations to collaborate on a comprehensive training and certification program for mountain biking instructors and coaches. It will ensure that leaders are properly trained and qualified to provide safe and enjoyable experiences for participants.

“The GSMBC is launching an innovative platform that celebrates coach competencies, encourages education before certification, and promotes a spirit of mentorship, all attributes that align with coach education best practice in the academic literature,” says Ben Chaddock, Head of Coach Development at Cycling BC. “We are thrilled to acknowledge the GSMBC certifications and support the organization’s work in building a community of safe, competent, and experienced coaches.”
“I’m really stoked that GSMBC and Cycling BC are teaming up to drive the growth and development of mountain bike coaches and instructors in BC and across Canada,” says Paul Howard, President and Education Director of GSMBC. “Having worked with Cycling BC for many years, I know firsthand the passion and commitment they bring to cycling in this province. GSMBC’s top priority is bringing ever-increasing value to mountain bike coaches, coaching businesses, and bike parks through the next evolution of MTB coach education and certifications. This partnership marks a significant step forward in achieving that mission. Together, we’re building stronger communities through world-class MTB education and giving coaches better access to the training and certification they need to level up.”
The GSMBC and Cycling BC Memorandum of Understanding is effective from June 1, 2025, to December 1, 2025.
