Canadian National Downhill Champions Crowned at Sun Peaks

Canada’s top downhill riders charged through the rugged trails of Sun Peaks this weekend, as the 2025 Canadian Downhill MTB Championships came alive with an electric crowd, elevated alpine terrain, and some unforgettable race-day magic. As part of the prestigious Dunbar Summer Series, the event showcased the fearless speed and unmatched precision of over 300 competitors from across the country and beyond.

The weekend opened with seeding runs on Saturday before building to a climactic Sunday final that saw Johnathan Helly dominate the Elite Men’s field. His win was a run that earned him his first elite national championship gold. It was a crowning achievement in an already impressive season. On the women’s side, Andréane Lanthier Nadeau claimed elite national champion title.

Beyond elite results, the weekend saw incredible performances from championship divisions. In the U17 and Junior categories, Sebastien Harrisson (U17 Men), Cameron Bragg in (U17 Women), Jack McCredie (Junior Men), and Tayte Proulx-Royds (Junior Women) all delivered standout rides. In the Masters categories, strong performances came from Andrea Balutis (Women 35-44), Tom Power (Men 35-44), Ryan Yastremsky (Men 45-54), Jasmine Swanson (Women 45+), and Donald Van Eesteren (Men 55+), which capped off a weekend of depth, talent, and dedication across many age groups.

From the first practice run to the final podium celebration, the 2025 Canadian Downhill MTB Championships at Sun Peaks delivered a full-throttle weekend of racing, community, and celebration. The weekend showcased the depth and passion of Canada’s mountain biking community, delivering thrilling racing and memorable moments across all categories. A thank you goes out to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and fans who brought the energy and made this event unforgettable. As the dust settles on this iconic alpine course, next up is the 2025 Canadian Road Championships (Masters), heading to Victoria, BC.
