Cycling Canada Announces Team for 2025 UCI Road World Championships
Cycling Canada has announced the team that will represent Canada at the UCI Road Cycling World Championships to be held in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 21 to 28. This is the first time the championships will be held on the African continent in the event’s 103-year history.
Canadian U23 rider, Isabella Holmgren, is coming into the road world championships red hot, with recent double gold medal wins at the 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in the U23 Women’s Cross-country Short-track (XCC) and Cross-country Olympic (XCO). Isabella is also fresh off a historic win at the 2025 Tour de l’Avenir Femmes. Isabella and her U23 women’s teammates will compete in the first-ever edition of a stand-alone U23 women’s race at this year’s world championships. Jonas Walton from Surrey will proudly represent the Canadian team in the men’s U23 race. Nadia Gontova from Vancouver will ride for Canada in the Elite Women’s category in her very first World Championships.
In the Junior Women’s category, Canada enters the competition as the top-ranked nation for the very first time! Leading the charge is BC’s Sidney Swierenga, who won the Tour du Gévaudan Occitanie in France earlier this year. Fellow BC rider, Monty Rigby, is ready to showcase his budding talent in the Junior Men’s race and make this a competition to remember!
The competition begins on September 21, with the Elite Time Trial in Men’s and Women’s. The full schedule of events can be found on the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) website.
