Cycling BC Offers Downhill Mountain Bike Training Camp & Mentorship Opportunities for Youth to Elite Riders

Unlock Your Potential at Cycling BC’s High Performance Whistler Downhill Training Camp

Calling all U19 & Elite downhill mountain bike racers and U15/U17 gravity groms! Get ready for an exhilarating adventure at Cycling BC’s High Performance Downhill Training Camp, being held from July 3rd to July 7th, 2023 at the world-renowned Whistler Bike Park.

As a pilot project, Cycling BC is offering this high-performance training camp as an opportunity for riders who may not be attending Big White or Silverstar to train and enhance their skills on a closed course in preparation for the National Downhill Championships in Fernie on July 16th.

Highlights of the Cycling BC Whistler DH Training Camp include:

  • Access to a closed training course on Whistler’s legendary mountain biking trails.
  • Access for elite athletes and teams to test, refine, and update bike settings in a more realistic environment
  • Expert instruction from highly skilled coaches with extensive experience in downhill mountain biking.
  • Small group sizes to facilitate personalized attention and focused training.
  • On-trail practice sessions to apply newly acquired race tactics on realistic terrain
  • Goal setting and mental performance specific to downhill racing.
  • Mentoring opportunities for older riders to help develop younger riders.
  • Networking opportunities with like-minded riders and industry professionals.
  • Stunning views and an unforgettable mountain biking experience in Whistler, BC.

“We are thrilled to pilot our first-ever High Performance downhill training camp in Whistler,” said Joel Harwood, Provincial Head Coach at Cycling BC. “This camp is not only about honing skills but also about fostering a sense of community and providing an immersive experience for the riders. That’s why we built in a mentorship component to the camp so that more experienced riders can train for free in exchange for passing on knowledge and building connections with younger athletes.”

Elite athletes will be offered closed-course training and testing on the recently completed 1199 track in Whistler’s Creekside. In exchange for this training opportunity, the elite athletes will be required to donate their time to the U15 riders during the introductory clinics where the elites will spend the afternoon sharing their experience, race preparation strategies, and most importantly building relationships with grassroots riders in the community. Elites who can’t commit to the mentorship component can still train but will be required to pay a fee.

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to collaborate with the downhill mountain bike community while having a closed training course to yourself at Whistler’s legendary bike park. Registration for the Whistler Downhill Training Camp is now open, and space is limited.
