Cycling BC is hosting a weekend of hands-on NCCP coach education at the Burnaby Velodrome Club on November 28 and 29.
Whether you are a parent helping out at club practice, a volunteer who wants to lead with more confidence, or a coach working toward your next certificate, this weekend is built around one idea: you learn to coach by coaching. Both days put you in front of a group, teaching real skills and getting feedback from an experienced Learning Facilitator.
Where: Burnaby Velodrome Club, 7564 Barnet Hwy.
When: Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm each day
Cost: $125 per day; register for one day or both
Registration closes: Thursday, November 27 at 11:59 pm (spaces are limited)
Learning Facilitator: Kurt Innes
The day starts in the board room with the skill-teaching model and lesson plans, then moves outside to the velodrome parking lot. Participants take turns coaching the group through the foundational movements every rider needs, from bike handling and braking to riding comfortably in close contact with others.
The focus is on skill analysis, observation, and corrective feedback, so you leave knowing not just what to teach, but how to spot what a rider needs and help them fix it.
Sunday takes those coaching tools to the velodrome. The morning will be in the boardroom on track etiquette, safety, skills, development, and lesson planning.
In the afternoon, you join a live youth track clinic, observing young athletes in the Learn to Train and Train to Train stages.
Coaches who hold Club-Assistant status or higher can audit either day free of charge, space permitting. It is a great way to refresh your skills and mentor newer coaches. Email education@cyclingbc.net for a discount code; audit registration opens 7 days before the event.
