BC Riders Shine at 2024 Canadian U17/Jr/Para Track Cycling Championships

The 2024 Canadian National U17/Junior/Para Track Cycling Championships, held at the Sylvan Adams Velodrome in Bromont, Quebec from March 29-31, provided a bountiful weekend of racing for BC riders. Among the competitors were some of the nation’s top U17, Junior, and Para track cyclists from BC, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, and New Brunswick.

Several BC riders made podium appearances over the three-day event, with a few even taking the top step to become national champions. West Pollock (Cycling BC) claimed gold and the national championship title in the U17 Men’s Sprint while teammate Amos Scott Bouris (Cycling BC) came in a close 2nd. However, Amos would have a national title to call his own after winning the U17 Men’s Points Race. Tendo Mukahanana (Tripleshot Cycling) was victorious in claiming the Junior Women’s national title in the sprint race.

BC would collect more national title wins in the team events with a U17 Men’s squad of Xavier Fell, West Pollock, Amos Scott Bouris and Cohen Vigliotti taking the win over Team Quebec (silver) and Team Ontario (bronze) in the Team Pursuit. The Junior Women’s Team Pursuit squad of Lindsey Cameron, Kimberly Chen, Sidney Swierenga, and Alberta rider, Alexandra Vostad, rode Team BC to a gold medal over Team Quebec. The trio of Chen, Mukahanana, and Volstad would then form a Team BC squad that rode to a gold and a new national record in the Junior Women’s Team Sprint.

Fresh off the UCI Track Cycling World Championships, Victoria’s Mel Pemble, also added to BC’s medal count with a gold in the Para C3 Women’s 500m Time Trial.

We congratulate all of our U17, Junior, and Para track cycling national champions for 2024, as well as all of the BC riders who competed on behalf of Cycling BC and their clubs. The national championships experience provides athletes with valuable training and racing experiences that will benefit their development as the continue to develop as top track cyclists in Canada.
