BMX Canada Cup 1&2 – Pan Am Games test event Recap

The Cycling BC BMX team traveled to Toronto for Canada Cups 1 & 2 held on the Pan Am track in Toronto, ON. The event held on Pan Am day in Canada was a triple billed event with Canada Cups both days, UCI C1 events both days and it was the test event for the Pan Am games.

The race was held on the newly build and beautiful Pan Ams track, Canada’s second Supercross track.   The track held it’s grand opening on Friday morning. Our team was invited to participate in the festivities and got a solid practice session before the rains hit in the afternoon.

Crazy weekend here in Toronto with some nasty thunder storms one day, to beautiful blue sky day the next. Getting to ride the new Toronto SX track built for the Pan Am games was a treat. The new facility is world class with nice fast and wide open straight aways which made for some great bar to bar racing action.

The racing was intense in the Championship classes with several countries sending their top athletes for to prepare for the Pan Am games.  I had an awesome weekend with the Cycling BC crew. Stoked to make the final both days, glad I had the opportunity to represent Cycling BC in a pretty eventful weekend. Thanks for all the support over the years.

We had three big highlights for the weekend:

First was Alex Tougas getting his first UCI Jr win, and second when he won both days.

Awesome time out east with the Cycling BC crew. We had some crazy weather, with some torrential rainfall and thunderstorms, but luckily the track, which will be used for the Pan-am games held out well for racing both days. As always there was an awesome vibe on and off the track. Felt really good to get my first two Junior wins within the first too Canada Cups of the season. All couldn’t of happened without Adam Muys’ hard work on and off the track, looking forward to the next trip with the team.

Second would be all four BC athletes making the finals on Sunday in a rain soak day of racing.

Lastly, it was Tory Nyhaug’s return to form by taking second place on Sunday after being injured in November and being off the bike for 5 months.

Great to get track time on the Pan Am Games track this weekend. Stoked to get my first UCI podium back from injury at only my second race. Thanks for the support from Cycling BC, I can’t wait to race again.
