International competition opportunities are fundamental for Cycling Canada’s national team program and serve as a significant motivator for athletes aspiring to excel on the world stage. The program is designed to create a positive environment for athletes to learn and grow, aiming to develop well-rounded competitors with life skills to excel in their future careers as cyclists and beyond.
The athlete selection process for the 2024 Road Programming schedule includes development and performance opportunities for Junior, U23, and Elite athletes, supporting road athletes and complementing the development of athletes from other disciplines such as mountain bike and track.
New for 2024
Athletes must complete the application form here by the deadline listed in the selection document to be considered for selection for a project. The deadline to apply for events is usually the day before the selection deadline. Event-specific application deadlines can be found in the selection document.
This new process is to help ensure no interested and eligible athletes are overlooked, and to improve the timeliness of selection decisions by minimizing the number of athletes who decline a project after being selected.
This new process means that athletes must apply to EACH project/program individually, rather than submitting one application for the entire year.
The first deadline is February 12, 2024, for the Junior Men’s and Women’s Spring European Projects.
Cycling Canada encourages athletes to provide updates on their performances and programming by contacting the National Coach (Road Lead) Nigel Ellsay at nigel.ellsay@cyclingcanada.ca.
