On March 9, 2023, the BC Government passed legislation to make September 30 a statutory holiday—National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day)—a day for all Canadians to commemorate the history and legacy of the residential school system.
Cycling BC encourages all members to join in commemorating National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and take the opportunity to educate themselves about the history and experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
If you are planning to ride on this day, we encourage you to wear orange to raise awareness of and honour the victims & survivors of residential schools, engage in meaningful conversations, and to promote positive change.
As we commemorate this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Cycling BC acknowledges that our organization, members, and activities take place across many traditional and unceded Indigenous territories, covering all regions of BC. We are honoured to live, work and play on this shared land.
The Cycling BC office, situated on the unceded homelands of the Coast Salish (Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish) people will be closed on Monday, October 2nd in observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We invite you to join us in honoring this important day by taking a moment of reflection and participating in activities that promote understanding and unity.
