We’re asking for your vote in supporting our 2025 membership fees
Dear Cycling BC Member,
Following our bylaws, we ask members each Fall to vote on the next year’s annual membership fees. In preparation for the 2025 season, we’re asking you to support a modest fee increase of $8. Here’s why:
When our former CEO departed in April 2024, the Board took the opportunity to chart a fresh course for the organization. Throughout the summer, Board members engaged in one-on-one conversations with members, event organizers, club volunteers, coaches, and other key stakeholders to understand their needs and aspirations for the organization.
In September, the Board came together for a full-day, in-person planning session with our new Executive Director, Christine Reid. We reflected on our mission, explored ways to enhance member services and grow the sport, and laid the groundwork for the coming year and new directions. As part of our commitment to transparency, the minutes from this planning session are available online.
The Board and staff are working on ideas to evolve HopOn, club membership and racing. Specifically, we’re exploring ways to create a better pathway for youth development, we’re focusing on simplifying the process for reporting club rides for insurance purposes, on making it easier to invite newcomers to participate in test rides with local clubs and encouraging unaffiliated riders to connect with clubs in their area. We want to support club growth and success by fostering collaboration—bringing clubs together to share ideas with each other and with us. We’re also working to enhance the racing experience by improving the race calendar and introducing initiatives to boost participation in local events.
We don’t expect members to bear all the financial burdens of the organization. We’ve kept fees unchanged in 2024 in response to member demands while also drastically cutting costs through many initiatives, including staff reduction and moving to remote work instead of leasing an office.* We’ll be tackling sponsorship and fundraising with renewed vigor in December and into the next year. We want to turn our efforts from a year of significant cost cutting and leadership transition to advancing new initiatives, improving service to members, and instilling positive change –and for that, we need some financial breathing room. With that goal in mind, the Board is recommending each member pay $8 more next year so that we can put some of these new ideas to work for you.
The proposed 2025 membership fees are as follows:
