This past Friday evening Cycling BC held the sixth Adult development at Ridge Meadows BMX. It was a great night we had 12 male and female athletes on the track under beautiful conditions. With help from Coaches Mischa Partridge, Amelia Walsh and Adam Muys the athletes worked on learning and building their bike handling skills. Following the camp the athletes and coaches relaxed with some snacks and refreshments and talked about the camp and the fun they had.
On Sunday, a youth & junior development camp was held with a new twist, the camp was separated into genders. In the morning session with the boys the athletes worked on building their skills and tactics to prepare themselves for the upcoming BC Championships. In the afternoon the female athletes took to the course. The females worked together and a fun relaxed environment to push each other to jump higher and ride faster. Big thanks to Mischa and Amelia for helping lead the way at the development camps.
Just because the weekend was over doesn’t mean the learning should end. On Monday I had the opportunity to travel to Kamloops and run two development camps. In the morning we had 7 novice/ intermediate athletes on the track. The athletes worked on pumping, cornering, gates and jumping. The athletes had a great time learn and building their skills. In the afternoon we had 7 expert athletes, for a short and focused skills camp. This camp was about building on their skills.
On Tuesday, I was off to Kelowna for two more development camps. In the morning 16 expert athletes attended the camp. The athletes worked on skills and race intensity tactics. The athletes had a great time jumping over the high jump bar, creating lines in the rhythm section and bumping elbows down the first straight and into the first turn. In the afternoon under the hot Kelowna sun 12 novice/intermediate athletes worked on pumping, cornering, gates, jumping and trying to find shade. It was a great camp and fun was had by all.
“It’s great to see so many athletes working to improve their cycling skills and having fun doing so. We have a lot of great talent in this province” – Adam Muys
Big thank you the clubs for hosting these events, the athletes that came and made them amazing and to the coaches that helped with the camps; Mischa Partridge, Amelia Walsh, Destinee Botchar and Natalie Schmidt.
