CANADIAN TRACK CYCLING TEAM SET TO ROCK AT WORLD CUP
Aguascalientes, Mexico hosts second stop of 2014 UCI Track World Cup tour.
(Ottawa, ON – Dec 4, 2013) The Canadian Track Cycling will hit the boards this weekend in Aguascalientes, Mexico for the second stop of the 2014 UCI Track World Cup tour.
Canada will be represented by six athletes – five women and one man – to compete in the Women’s Team Pursuit, Women’s Individual Pursuit, Women’s Points, the Women’s Omnium and the Men Sprint and Keirin races.
Canada performed exceptionally well in the opening World Cup event of the season in Manchester, winning three medals – one gold and two silver medals – with the Women’s Team Pursuit, Women’s Points race and Women’s Omnium.
At the races in Mexico, Canada’s Women’s Team Pursuit squad, 2012 Olympic bronze medallists, will be looking to grab the gold, having finished second to the Olympic and World Champions team from Great Britain in the first race of the season.
In the individual races, Gillian Carleton of Victoria, BC will be attempting to improve on her second-place finish in the Omnium earned in Manchester, while World Cup winner Laura Brown of Vancouver, BC will get to test her individual strength and endurance in the individual pursuit.
Hugo Barrette, of Cap-aux-Meules, QC, the only man representing Canada at the event, will be looking to redeem himself at this second race of the season. The sprinter will take part in the Sprint and Keirin races.
The competition starts on Thursday and ends on Saturday.
