IGNITE Athlete Development Program Winter Session

Ignite

The High Performance Team at the Richmond Olympic Oval will be offering the Winter 2014 session of Canadian Sport Institute’s IGNITE Athlete Development Program. In the past six seasons we have trained athletes in a variety of sports ranging from synchronized swimming, rowing, track cycling, biathlon, racquetball, water polo, taekwondo, softball, soccer, hockey, freestyle skiing and alpine skiing.

The IGNITE Athlete Development Program is for provincially targeted athletes between the ages of 14-17. IGNITE introduces young athletes who are targeted by their Provincial Sport Organization to a high-performance lifestyle by improving their athleticism, physical literacy and fitness through a multi-sport training program which is complementary to their current sport-specific practice and competition schedules.

Delivered by experienced specialists with the aim of building complete champions, IGNITE helps athletes gain balance, strength, speed, agility, and power through training sessions focusing on three movement streams:

Sprint Training

Gymnastics

Strength and Conditioning

The purpose of the IGNITE Athlete Development Program is to:

Enhance motor skills & physical fitness

Provide & enhance foundational movement skills to help with future development

Cody has been involved with the Metro Vancouver IGNITE program for 4 seasons and has an extensive background in strength training and track and field. Working as an assistant coach for UBC Track and Field since September 2009, Cody aids in the training and development of UBC’s national level sprinters. Specializing in speed training, Cody focuses on an athlete’s overall sprinting performance through the development of movement patterns and movement mechanics, whole body coordination, neuromuscular activation, and sprint biomechanics. Previously working as a Functional Rehabilitation Specialist, Cody educated clients on injury prevention and rehabilitation. Shifting his focus to the development of athletic performance, Cody capitalizes on his experience in track, rehab and strength training.

The team from Delta Gymnastics will be leading the sessions on Feb 5, Feb 26, Mar 19 and Apr 9. Delta Gymnastics has been involved with the IGNITE Program since 2010. Delta coach Michael Hood has played an instrumental role in developing the gymnastic curriculum with Canadian Sport Institute.

Winter 2014 – IGNITE Information Session

Wednesday, Jan 15, 2014 from 6:00pm-7:00pm

Please join coach Cody Low of the Metro Vancouver IGNITE program for an opportunity to learn about the IGNITE program curriculum. Cody will be discussing with athletes, parents and coaches the components of the program. The information session will also touch base on the opportunity for registrants to receive high school credits for their involvement in the program. A representative of Richmond Virtual School will be in attendance to answer questions.

Parents and coaches are highly encouraged to attend the session. We believe that it is important for parents and technical coaches to gain an understanding of how the IGNITE program can be integrated into the athlete’s current sport and school schedule.

Pre-registration is required to attend the session.  Registration must be completed by noon on Jan 14th.
