This March we kicked off the first clinic of many this year for Cycling BC’s Sprocket and Rocket BMX development teams. Still being extremely early in the season for these BMX riders, we were lucky enough to have the space at the Abbotsford Indoor BMX arena to get these kids on their bikes early in the year to give them that extra edge going into the 2014 outdoor season.
We started off with the Rockets clinic with riders ranging from 12-14 years of age, and many who have grown up going through Cycling BC’s development program. In saying this, many of these riders are very skilled and have a lot of racing experience under their for their age. As the number of riders was at a good slim number, we were able to give these riders the full attention that they deserved and push them to their limit to allow them to learn new skills, or better perform the ones they already knew. With a lot of the clinic focused on skill specific work, the riders really had a blast pushing, and testing one another.
A snowy Saturday morning began the Sprockets first development camp with a big group of excited little racers, eager to get on their bikes! With over two times the amount of riders on hand attending the sprockets camp, we called in some reinforcement and brought in two other assistant coaches to help make sure these kids were given the necessary attention they needed. With so much excitement in the air from this being the first camp of the year, all the riders were extremely excited to be on their bikes with their friends, learning new skills and pushing their abilities. With a long sweaty day of riding, it was awesome to see these kids leave with a huge smile on their faces!”
