This past weekend the BMX provincial team started out their season with a bang! On Thursday the BMX Team met up with the the MTB, Road and Track High Performance teams on Granvillle Island for the annual team photo. The weather seemed to hold off for the one hour photo shoot and everyone received their 2014 kits.
Friday afternoon the athletes took to the Abbotsford BMX track. After warming up they worked on manuals and jumping skills in the rhythm section before moving up to the start hill. For many it was the first time on the SX hill for the season, so in the beginning it was shaking off the cobwebs.
As the session continued the athletes gained confidence and increased their abilities while use the hill and SX jump. For some it was getting lower over the jump while starting out of the gate, others just getting comfortable jumping without the case pad, clearing the case pad or just rolling down the hill without brakes.
On Saturday the athletes met at SFU to work on some Strength and Conditioning with Kit Wong, who is working with the National team. Kit ran the athletes through a solid warm-up, the Olympic lifts and stretching session. In the afternoon is was back to Abbotsford for some more time on the SX hill. With the second session in the SX hill the athletes all stepped it and took another step forward. Everyone had some good sessions on and off the track and are looking forward to the Next camp May 17-18.
