With summer now in full swing, and kids out of school the Cycling BC BMX development program headed over to Vancouver Island for the fifth development camp of the year. Hosted at the Oceanside BMX club in Qualicum, this track features a fun, and fast downhill layout. Coach Mischa Partridge was joined by guest coach and National team member Corey Walsh, and Provincial team elite Michelle Berti. The U12 Sprockets group had a solid turn out on this hot Tuesday morning. Riders focused on the skills of pedalling, jumping and cornering, as well as proper form for their starts and how to pass in corners.
For the 12-14 year old Rockets team, we had a smaller turn out, but a great level of talent in the group. With these riders all members of the Rockets Development team, the competition level was high, and each athlete received ample one on one time with the coaches. The afternoon session was focused on carrying speed while jumping, advanced skills of manualling and pulling, and being aggressive on the first straightaway. By the end of the three hours of pushing themselves in the afternoon sun, each individual was sweaty, tired, and had a grin on their face!
“I am looking forward to seeing many of these riders race this weekend at the National event in Cumberland, and hopefully putting some of the skills was have taught them today into practice”. – Mischa Partridge
