For our sixth camp of the season, the CyclingBC BMX Development teams returned to Action BMX club in Surrey. Thankfully this time the weather was on our side, and everyone got in a good hard day of riding!
The morning session featured the Sprockets team, joined by many very competitive U12 riders. The newly redesigned Action BMX track was a hit with everyone! “The team was able to practice building speed through a very technical rhythm section, as well as improve their jumping skill.” With a great progression of jumps on this new track, riders were put to the Challenge by head coaches James Palmer and Mischa Partridge, and joined my National team girl Amelia Walsh. By the time the dust settled, there were no scrapes or bruises for the day, only seat and smiles to be seen.
The afternoon Rockets group on was a little smaller so we had a great opportunity to give every athlete the full attention they needed. And for the first time this year, we had a greater number of girls participating than boys! This was so awesome to see, and I know the girls were super excited about it also! They were the highlights of my day, helping each other push themselves to accomplish new things on the track they didn’t even think they could do! This is exactly what every coach hopes, and inspires to watch! What a day in scorching hot sun, I am already looking forward to the next one!
