Cycling BC’s Future Champs program was a huge hit in its 2015 BMX debut! Sunday’s camp was open registration and over thirty riders turned up to show off their skills. The BMX Future Champs program is designed to introduce the essential skills of racing to all riders in the eleven and under category. “The great thing about this program is that it gives us coaches a chance to identify what skills and abilities are essential for riders of this age,” said Adam Muys, regarding the future champs program.
The athletes worked in different areas of the track with Cycling BC BMX coaches. In each area, the athletes worked on different skills and tactics for racing BMX. Putting it all together, the athletes learned how to pop out of the gate, the shortest way around the track, the fastest way around the turn, and how to pass. All wrapped up with pumping, jumping and manualing skills.
The athletes were so excited by the end of the camp that they didn’t want to leave the track.
