Last week iRide’s Vancouver coach, Wes Ochitwa, teamed up with U23 racer and new iRide assistant coach Anna Talman to visit students at Fort Langley Elementary. The 3-day program ran under clear skies and earned big smiles with the students. As a focus school for Cycling BC’s supporters at the Prospera Valley Gran Fondo, Fort Langley students aged 6-13 enjoyed a full gamut of skills and games.
Wes reports:
Fort Langley Elementary was an excellent place to kick off iRide 2016 programming into a full springtime swing, not to mention the introduction of a vibrant new coach now calling BC her home, Coach Anna “Banana” Talman. Like any good old-fashioned Lower Mainland spring riding, these Kindergarten-to-Grade 7s ventured on their two-wheelers through brink-of-summer sunshine and warmth, to patches of torrential skies. Nonetheless, these kids gobbled up a full three day program that launched them through the new Hip Hop Zombie game, to smashing strong straight lines of a mud rich grass field, and a cyclocross-themed around-the-school obstacle course, diving deep in tight turns through Fort Langley’s rich old growth offerings on this extended playground.
Coach Anna Talman couldn’t believe how incredible it felt to work with a little rider that couldn’t ride a bike on day one, and then see them ride away and join the group on day three:
