Record Numbers at Opening BC BMX Premier Series Races

Record numbers turned out for the opening of the BC BMX Premier Series with Abbotsford Indoor BMX hosting the first two races of the seven race series on Saturday and Sunday, February 18 and 19. A new and improved format saw challenging racing across the categories.
“The new combined classes really created some fun and exciting racing,” noted Provincial and National Team coach Adam Muys. “Thanks to the Abbotsford BMX club for hosting an awesome event.”

The action-packed double header saw stacked racing across the board. Avriana Hebert took the Female Junior & Elite category in Saturday’s race and Billy Ratcliff took the Male Junior & Elite in a very strong performance, taking the honours in five out of six motos over two days of racing.

Also new for this year is the team competition. Saturday’s racing saw Nanaimo BMX come out on top and Ridge Meadows take the crown for clubs points on Sunday. Despite these impressive results, Action BMX came through for the overall series lead with steady results on both days.

Weekend results and series standings can be found on the series page HERE. Anthony Lyons was at the track both days capturing the action–check out the photo galleries here and here.

Our next stop in the BC BMX Premier Series sees the events jump to Action BMX in Surrey on May 27th and 28th. This doubles as the opening weekend of racing for the Canada Cup series, with a UCI C1 sanctioned Canada Cup on Saturday May 27th and a national calendar Canada Cup event on Sunday May 28th. Action BMX is one of British Columbia’s most exciting and fast paced tracks, which should provide excellent racing and spectating for all ages.
