Canadian BMX Hall of Fame Inaugural Event Supported by Cycling BC

The inaugural Canadian BMX Hall of Fame reunion and awards ceremony took place at the George Preston Recreation Centre in Langley, BC, on August 3, 2024. As a sponsor of the event, Cycling BC is proud to support the recognition and celebration of BMX’s past & present riders, builders, and legends. The Hall of Fame event was held in conjunction with the BMX Canada Borderline Nationals hosted at the Langley BMX track next to the recreation centre.

Cycling BC’s Interim CEO, Joel Harwood, was on hand at the inaugural event to take in some BMX racing, a vintage BMX bike show, a memorabilia display, and the awards night while connecting with those who helped build and shape the sport of BMX in Canada over the years.

“BMX is the ultimate grassroots form of cycling, where many young cyclists begin their cycling journey. BMX teaches fundamental riding skills and provides a supportive and welcoming community for riders,” said Joel Harwood. “Cycling BC is proud to support the Canadian BMX Hall of Fame and we look forward to continuing our work with the BMX community and BMX Canada to provide more opportunities for people to get involved in this great sport.”

While BMX has been around since the late 1970s, the newly formed Canadian BMX Hall of Fame is still in its early stages and the first event is just the beginning. A second event is planned to be held next year in Alberta and one day, the hope is for the BMX Hall of Fame to have a physical location to show off and commemorate the sport’s rich history.
