Cycling BC Team Project at Canada Cup XCO #2 Mont-Tremblant

Catching up with the Cycling BC High Performance MTB team project at Canada Cup XCO #2 in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec.

After a long travel day including some delayed flights that arrived in Tremblant, Quebec at around 2 AM local time, it was obvious that we were all a bit tuckered out to start the weekend of racing. For those of us who arrived on schedule, we made efficient use of time by getting groceries for the weekend, ate dinner, and doing some bike builds in the parking lot while we waited for the others to arrive.

After some well-needed sleep, we hit the track on Friday for course recon—the sun was out and the track was a lot of fun. Saturday was the short track (XCC) race and Sunday was the XCO which saw a very fast field of riders across all categories. As this was a selection race for world championships, everyone was giving it their all.

Results from Cycling BC High Performance program targeted athletes on this project included,

Eliie Winchell – 6th Jr Women (Charge BC XC)

Keely Hamilton – 13th Jr Women (Independent)

Rhett Bates – 9th Jr Men (Charge BC XC)

Maddox Johnson – 14th Jr Men  ( Independent)

Kelan Wells – 15th Jr. Men (Charge BC XC)

Injae Sol – 25th Elite Men (UBC Cycling Team)

Other BC targeted athletes who participated in the race, but were not part of this project, include Marin Lowe (Pittstop Racing Team), who secured 1st place in Elite Women, and Ethan Wood (Charge BC XC), who finished 3rd among U17 Men.

Team project riders were supported by Cycling BC coaches Tara Mowat and Jane Rossworn on this project.

Cycling BC’s High Performance program provides targeted athletes with opportunities for advanced training, skill development (both on and off the bike), and exposure to national-level competitions to help them excel in competitive cycling.

Next up for the team is the Canada Cup XCO #3 in Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec.
