On July 21-24, 2022, the 2022 Canadian Mountain Bike (XCO/XCC) Championships were held in Oro Station, Ontario. Cycling BC supported seven riders from the High Performance program who travelled to the championships to take part in a team project for the chance to win a national title and an amazing opportunity to further their development. The project also provided those athletes selected for the 2022 Canada Summer Games with valuable experience racing at the national level prior to the Games in Niagara next month.
Cycling BC High Performance MTB Team for XCC/XCO Nationals:
- Jasper Fleming (Squamish)
- Tristan Drews (Victoria)
- Noah Rubuliak (Kelowna)
- Jacob Baggot (Fernie)
- Ellie Winchell (Powell River)
- Geza Rodgers (Port Moody)
- Madeleine Pollock (North Vancouver)
Throughout the project, Cycling BC’s provincial head coach Joel Harwood and High Performance Manager Tara Mowat provided on-site support, pre-race training, race plans, and mechanical, moral, and emotional support to the athletes.
Overall it was a great experience and project for the team with some impressive results including a top 10 finish for our U17s Ellie Winchell & Geza Rodgers and U19s Jasper Fleming & Noah Rubuliak in the XCC Short-Track event.
