Cycling BC is pleased to receive viaSport’s update this week and see the provincial government taking another step forward and moving to Step 3 of BC’s Restart Plan as of July 1, 2021.
With another careful step forward, Cycling BC encourages all members and clubs to continue following the BC health authorities guidance. While provincial health orders have been lifted, we realize that everyone, including the different municipalities across the province, will be moving forward at their own pace.
The move to Step 3 means several changes for sport including,
- No limits on the number of participants, coaches, volunteers, staff and officials for outdoor and indoor sport
- Physical distancing is not required on or off the field of play for indoor and outdoor sport
- Masks are not required on or off the field of play for outdoor sport. For indoor sport, masks are not required on the field of play but are recommended off the field of play for ages 12+ who are not yet double vaccinated.
- Canada-wide travel is allowed. International travel must follow federal regulations.
- Spectators are allowed, with limits for seated events indoors and outdoors.
- Sport organizations are no longer required to have a COVID-19 Safety Plan and are now recommended to have a Communicable Disease Prevention Plan as per WorkSafe BC
As we look ahead to a return to normal for sport, Cycling BC recommends that clubs continue to take registration and maintain records of attendance for registered club rides. It is a useful tool for contact tracing related to incidents that may involve liability claims covered by Cycling BC’s member insurance.
The move to the next and final step (Step 4) of BC’s Restart plan is expected to occur on September 7, 2021, at the earliest. The Public Health Officer will advise when it is time to move to the next step.
Cycling BC would like to thank all our members, teams, clubs, coaches. officials, organizers, volunteers, sponsors and partners for your ongoing patience and cooperation as we move along the steps of the restart in the most cautious, responsible, and respectful way possible.
