Cycling British Columbia (Cycling BC), the provincial governing body for the sport of cycling in BC, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024, marking five decades of dedication to the promotion and advancement of cycling throughout the province. Established in February 1974, Cycling BC has played a pivotal role in the cycling community, helping to grow cycling in the province from grassroots initiatives to supporting elite athletes.
“We are thrilled to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cycling BC in 2024,” said Erin Waugh, the CEO of Cycling BC. “This remarkable milestone is a tribute and celebration of the tireless effort, commitment, and accomplishments of all the individuals who have been associated with our organization over the last fifty years. It inspires and encourages those who will work towards leading us into the next fifty years of our journey.”
Cycling BC will celebrate its anniversary throughout the year in various ways, including sharing the stories of past and present members and highlighting notable moments in Cycling BC’s history on its website, newsletters, and social media platforms.
To kick off the celebration, Cycling BC will be releasing two new retro-inspired jerseys—a newly designed BC Championship jersey, which will be awarded to BC provincial champions this year. It takes a modern twist on the design and feel of provincial champions’ jerseys from the late 20th century. A 50th Anniversary commemorative jersey, with a striking yet simple classic look, will be available to everyone for pre-order at Cycling BC’s online store starting on March 1st. Both jerseys will display a special Cycling BC 50th Anniversary logo that will be used throughout 2024.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Cycling BC will host monthly 50/50 fundraising draws to continue supporting bike racing and athlete development programming in BC. Tickets are available online and draws will be held on the 27th of each month, starting in March 2024.
Monthly 50/50 ticket purchasers will be entered into bonus draws for Cycling BC swag, and in December one lucky 50/50 supporter will win one of our commemorative jerseys.
