Cycling BC is thrilled to have Concord Pacific’s fourth annual Tour de Concord Criterium and Free Family Bike Festival back on the race calendar on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Concord Pacific Place (88 Pacific Boulevard) in Vancouver.
“Cycling BC deeply appreciates Concord Pacific’s commitment to cycling and hosting this event every year since 2021,” said Cycling BC’s Interim CEO, Joel Harwood. “With race proceeds going back into the cycling community each year, the Tour de Concord has become an integral part of the growing cycling community. It’s now a destination race, with teams from the U.S. and overseas already registered.”
The event will continue its tradition of hosting action-packed criterium races displaying feats of speed and endurance from amateur and elite/pro-level cyclists alike who have been the marquee attraction of the event. The racing will be complemented by kids’ fun rides around the race track, a Family Kids’ Zone featuring Cycling BC’s HopOn bike obstacle course which has been expanded this year to accommodate more kids ages 3-12 to participate, and a team charity bike race to raise funds for St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation.
“This isn’t just a cycling race—it’s a fun way to bring our city together and support the new St.Paul’s (hospital) campus,” said Vancouver Mayor, Ken Sim, at a press event held by Concord Pacific on Thursday, May 9th. “With thousands expected to join in, and tons of free activities for kids and families, this event really shows off the energy and spirit of our community!”
The Free Family Bike Festival (registration required) will also feature food trucks, free popcorn for kids, arts & crafts tents, a beer garden, bike vendors, a bike valet, free bicycle safety checks and mini tune-ups from Trek bikes, draw prizes, and a trials riding showcase by the Zero Gravity Trials team. All of this takes place on the Tour de Concord festival grounds enclosed within the upgraded and fully enclosed 900-metre race course providing ample viewing access to the bike races that will be happening throughout the day.
“This year’s Tour de Concord is anchored by many synergies, with the community and St Paul’s,” proclaimed Terry Hui, CEO of Concord Pacific. “Vibrant communities, sustainability, health and wellness are all intertwined.”
Tour de Concord is a part of Concord’s returning Summer Wellness Series including the six-week Own Your Run series with a Global Run Day celebration finale and weekly summer Yoga at Concord Community Park.
