Dear Cycling BC Members,

Hello! I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of Cycling BC, joining a community dedicated to fostering growth, connection, and excellence in cycling. It’s an honour to support and advocate for you—the members, riders and teams who form the vibrant core of our organization.

As I settle into my role, I wanted to reach out and share a little about my first two months with Cycling BC. It’s been a period of exciting learning, relationship-building, and deep reflection on our shared goals for the cycling community in British Columbia. During this time, I’ve been fortunate to connect with our Board members, staff, race organizers, commissaires, athletes, provincial counterparts, and other key partners—each a vital part of our collective success.

My focus has been on fostering collaborative partnerships that align with the values and aspirations of our community. As I listen to your feedback, I’m actively seeking ways Cycling BC can be more innovative and responsive to the needs of our members and community.

We’ve already been working hard to get ready for the 2025 season. The team and I have been reviewing our processes, taking steps to stabilize our finances and laying the groundwork for a new strategic plan.

We’re looking at ways to ease the reporting requirements on clubs and make it easier for clubs to encourage participation among new riders. We’ll be considering how to better help race organizers and clubs: from grant writing to resource sharing, clearly communicating our insurance policy details through a matrix of comparisons, and reviewing the race calendar processes to improve attendance and minimize scheduling conflicts.

We are currently reviewing our governance and policy structure to better serve our organization and community with the support of Sport Law. And lastly, improving our funding model to not place all the financial burden on our membership, clubs and race organizers but rather diversifying the funding streams by increasing our fundraising opportunities and making our organization more attractive to sponsors and donors in 2025.

This is just a glimpse at some of the projects in progress!

Looking ahead, I’m committed to enhancing collaboration and resource sharing across the organization. I look forward to meeting many of you at upcoming events. Stay tuned for an announcement the week of November 25th to connect with me on the Lower Mainland or with our new Board Chair, Martin Farnham, on the Island.

Thank you for your commitment and passion for cycling in our province. Together, let’s pedal forward to a bright future!

Warm regards,

Christine Reid
