A record 298 riders turned out for the 2015 BC Cyclocross Championships on Sunday. Riders braved frosty temperatures at the logger sports grounds in Squamish, where 16-year-old Maggie Coles-Lyster (Local Ride Racing) took the provincial champion’s jerseys in the elite women’s race, and returning champion Craig Richey reclaimed his title in the elite men’s races. Race organizers Steed Cycles also awarded awarded custom-painted golden axes to both elite winners.
This year was also the first time a BC championship title was awarded to women’s and men’s single speed categories and the honour went to Anne-Marie Gagnon (Team Giant Vancouver) and Richard Machhein (Team Giant Vancouver), respectively.
