MOJO WHEELS NORTH is a Calgary based Downhill and Slopestyle team dedicated to providing its sponsored athletes with high level coaching with Shaums March, (former world cup downhill racer and Red Bull sponsored Athlete), the very best equipment Specialized Bikes, Shimano and Loaded components.

The Golden BC event will welcome athletes from ages two to sixty-two years old from all over Western Canada and the Northern USA. An estimated 500 spectators will line the course to catch the excitement as nearly 300 competitors attempt to master the four minute + course. “SE Racing & Promotions is absolutely thrilled to have this Denver-based company with the quality reputation of Mojo Wheels as the title sponsor of the Western Open,” said Stephen Exley, Event Director. The Mojo Wheels bike shop has specialized in downhill, cross country, BMX, freeride, and freestyle bikes for amateur and pro riders alike since 1991.
This year’s race will take place on Sunday, August 5th at the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden BC…events will be running all weekend long. The weekend will kick off Friday night with open practice running till 8pm followed by Saturday practice, a trials competition and an industry expo. The 2012 event will also see host Brett Tippie back as MC, Camp of Champions will be on site with their air bag , and the return of the Shimano Kids Race hosted by Tara Llanes, for riders under the age of 12.

The Western Open is one of the best pure Down-Hill races in the Western Canada. It boasts a combined $5000.00 cash purse for Elite Racers with an additional $10,000 in SWAG and other free promotional products for racers, fans and volunteers for 2012.

Proceeds for the race will go to the Love for Lola Fund, which will assist with my daughter’s rehabilitation. Lola is recovering from life-threatening viral encephalitis, which she was infected with in 2008. As a result, she has an acquired brain injury which involves her brain stem and has left her unable to speak, and experiencing several seizures daily. Lola has re-learned to eat, play, walk, and run and receives OT, PT, and Speech through GRIT Calgary Society. She has a long way to go to regain more of her lost abilities. Proceeds from this race will assist with her daily care, weekly music therapy, and any other therapeutic tools that will aid in her recovery. Her story is posted at www.ourloveforlola.blogspot.com

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is located high in the Dogtooth Range of the Purcell Mountains, 14 km above Golden, British Columbia. Surrounded by towering peaks of two other mountain ranges – the Rockies and Selkirks – it is also close to six of Canada’s most spectacular National Parks: Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, Yoho, Glacier, and Mt. Revelstoke. The resort is just 1.5 hours west of Banff (145 kilometers) and 2.5 hours west of Calgary (270 Kilometers) on the Trans-Canada highway.
