Catharine Pendrel and Steve Smith were named Canada’s top cyclists in late December.
Pendrel, the mountain bike world champion from Kamloops, B.C., took the women’s top honour as well as the award for best individual performance of the year after taking the world title in September.
Smith, from Cassidy, B.C., was named top male rider to become the first downhill athlete to win the award.
Smith finished fifth overall in the downhill World Cup series, the highest placing ever by a Canadian.
He captured the top cyclist honour ahead of Victora’s Ryder Hesjedal, who finished 18th overall at the Tour de France.
A big Congratulations to both!
