This past weekend the Cycling BC High Performance MTB Team had a busy one.  The XCer’s went into their 2nd Nationals Qualification race, OreCrusher and joined up with the DH team on Sunday for a full day of descending.  In the Jr. Men’s category, Rhys Verner took the gold, Austin Reith silver and Mahon Lamont, who’s just coming back from a broken elbow, with a bronze.  Elite Team member, Quinn Moberg, crossed the line in 2nd, Jennifer McTavish took the Jr. Women’s gold and some strong finishes from Stephanie and Kelsey as well.  For full results check out: http://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=22230

On Saturday we rode with Cory and some of the C4 riders. We sessioned a few different sections of Lowdown, in Squamish, where we set up some Freelap timing towers. It was super helpful to see our times and try out new lines to see if they were faster.  I feel like I got a lot out of the repetitive laps to really nail the 10 second section that had a difficult corner in it.  Sunday it was just the Cycling BC team.  We used the timing towers again on Lowdown, but this time for the whole trail. By practising on the smaller sections it took a decent amount of time off the whole trail.  The camp was really fun, and the first time I got to work with Cory.

This weekends training camp was highly productive. It was downhill focused and really helped me to push my limits. On Saturday we timed two sections of upper lowdown in Squamish so we could focus on a particular section, the focus of the weekend was carrying your speed through corners and learning where it is beneficial to pedal or pump. On Sunday we put the two sections of Lowdown together and timed the full track putting together what we had learned into a 40 second track. This weekend has been great preparation for what will hopefully be a successful weekend at Mont Tremblant, Quebec for the first DH Canada Cup.
