This weekend at nationals was awesome! The official race preparation started with a very warm and insect polluted course walk in the morning then a fair amount of practice laps. As I predicted the course got really ruff and blown out as the weekend went on. Saturday was similar to Friday, I started with some practice laps in the morning then went and checked out some lines that had ruffed in from all the riders,  then I went back to get in some more practice laps. Unfortunately, I did not have a seeding run as I rode in the Cadet Category. Sunday I got two practice laps in the morning then it was a waiting game.   Once I arrived for my run, we were informaed there was an hour delay.  Unfortunately, I did not plan on this, some extra food and water to beat the heat would have helped a bit in this situation – something to remember for next time!   I did not have the greatest race run, as I felt I rode the brakes a little too much in a few sections, but it was a great learning experience and I did end up second!

It’s been an absolute scorcher here at Sunpeaks for the DH Nationals, with +30 temperatures.  The intense heat seems to be zapping our energy levels and turning the dirt into sand.  Leaving lots of space between you and the rider in front makes it difficult to show lines without having to pull over trackside.  I had a bit of a rough seeding run after bending my cranks before dropping in.  But, I’ve got my bike sorted and am excited to race!  Thank you to all the supporters and sponsors that have helped us out this year!
