The Hayman Classic on May 22-24, 2020 is founded on the idea of bringing young cyclists together on home soil. Unlike almost any other race in Canada, there are no adult categories – this is all about the future! It is our hope that their experiences in this event will have a positive, lasting impact on their lives.
The overhauled HC website is live and registration is open now . The four-stage format based on accumulated time remains unchanged. Also returning are the “ability-based” categories which allows developing cyclists to select the appropriate race based on their physical maturity, experience, and fitness level. Only the hard-fought elite U19 categories are gender-specific.
A temporary road closure on Eastside Rd last year forced the race to relocate the opening time trial to the Okanagan Falls area. This new 13km course proved very popular among racers, and the See Yah Later Winery was gracious in providing their facilities for staging & awards on very short notice. We look forward to returning.
The spectacular and very private Area 27 continues as stage two of the race, providing a safe venue for curb to curb racing on its winding 16 corner circuit. Road work on stage three, the Riverside Drive Criterium, is scheduled to complete in time for our popular Saturday morning criterium. Finally, the Wine Country surrounding Oliver is the setting for the final stage. The 15 km road circuit is fast with plenty of twists and turns – culminating with a one-kilometre climb to the finish line.
With the goal of providing BC athletes with high-level competition on home soil, we are looking into ways to attract even more out of province racers to the U19 categories.
