The Victoria Youth Cycling Experience (VYCE), a week-long youth development camp from August 12-19, 2022, is now open for registration for young cyclists that want an opportunity to improve their riding skills in a safe and fun environment while competing with riders of the same ability level.
As a pilot project between Cycling Canada, Cycling BC, and event partners from Victoria’s cycling community, VYCE will bring riders together to experience cycling in various forms including road, mountain bike, and track cycling on Vancouver Island.
Participants will be grouped according to their ability and will have the flexibility to change groups throughout the camp depending on their level of comfort.
VYCE will include a road stage race including a time trial, road race, and criterium from August 12th-14th; each race will be preceded by a race clinic to help riders feel comfortable with the race course and practice group-riding skills with supervision from the camp’s coaches.
The latter half of VYCE will be focused on training, skills, and development camps from August 15th-19th, followed by an opportunity for everyone to experience the BC Track Cycling Provincial Championships being hosted by the Greater Victoria Velodrome Association from August 19th-21st.
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome young cyclists to Victoria this summer to experience this unique opportunity to ride with other kids of similar ability and learn the skills they need to develop into the higher levels of the sport,” said Erin Waugh, CEO of Cycling BC. “Our community has come together to put on this event so that young athletes, coaches, and parents, can have a memorable experience and enjoy the cycling culture that Victoria has to offer.”
