The 2023 BC Provincial Road Race and Time Trial Championships are set to take place on May 20 & 21, 2023 in Langley, BC, showcasing the beauty of the Fraser Valley region and the top cycling talent in the province.
Both provincial championship events, hosted by Thrashers Bike Club, are expected to attract hundreds of participants and spectators from across BC. As the first provincial championship bike race in 2023, the BC Road Race and the Provincial Time Trial Championships will provide a platform for racers to compete and test their fitness in a challenging and exciting environment. Early-season races have been happening at various regional grassroots events throughout the province and riders have steadily been getting into peak season form in preparation for provincials and other marquee events this year.
“For riders, provincial championships racing provides an opportunity to compete against some of the best athletes in the province and to measure their progress,” says Erin Waugh, CEO of Cycling BC. “For spectators, it’s a chance to experience the excitement and energy of a competitive bike race and to catch a glimpse of the dedication and skill of the riders.”
As a cycling destination, Langley, BC, is known for its gently rolling hills and picturesque farm landscapes, making it a fantastic setting for the 2023 road race and time trial provincials. Participants and spectators alike will have the opportunity to explore the local area and experience one of the Fraser Valley’s greatest treasures.
“Both the road race and time trial courses will have very long straightaways that travel along the 49th parallel edging the United States and Canada border,” says race organizer Drew of the Thrashers Bike Club. “Participants can expect a range of challenges along both routes including country rollers, sweeping corners, and a short, steep kick. A puncher’s playground.”
The Cycling BC Provincial Road Race and Time Trial Championships is open to cyclists of all ages and skill levels. The Provincial Title and Jersey will be awarded to the winners of the championship categories. All others can go for the podium in the Open Categories. There is also a One Lap Youth / Citizen race; for the kids, coaches and parents.
Registration is now open, and participants are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spot.
After the Individual Time Trials, riders can put a team together for one more lap in a “Winners Take All – 5 Team Time Trial.
Thrashers Bike Club is also making it a Championship May Long Camping Weekend at nearby Hazelmere RV Park featuring a large group site perfect for van and car camping or travel trailers; a communal outdoor kitchen, showers, pool, and marshmallows.
