The UBC Grand Prix the youngest member of BC Superweek and the most technical Criterium of the series that is located in the heart of the University of British Columbia. It is however one of the most excilerating events from a spectators perspective to watch because the riders can be seen almost the entire way around the course.
The UBC Grand Prix presented by Mahony & Sons Public House is part of BC Superweek and features a Pro/Am Criterium Race open to male and female cyclists competing for over $10,000 in prize money.
Athletes race a 1km circuit and navigate around the course for 40-65 laps. Spectators will be entertained by the athletes sprinting for cash prizes that will be awarded throughout the race making for an exciting afternoon and evening of fun.
Along with the professional races, there is also a Kid’s Race, complete with bike safety tips and prizes for all who participate, and a Corporate Challenge.
The UBC Grand Prix raises funds for the BC Sports Medicine Research Foundation.
The new BC Superweek Youth Series is a partnership between BC Superweek and Global Relay’s Bridge the Gap Fund, which is coordinating the series.
In addition to giving the up and coming racers (boys, ages 12 – 15, and girls, ages 12-16) a chance to compete in seven races over eight days, BC Superweek Youth Series will also give them a chance to test their bike handling skills at speed over the same iconic courses their heroes will race on later each evening in front of thousands of cheering race fans.
