The Parapan Am Games are only days away and will open on November 17, 2023, and will close on November 26, 2023.
There are over 140 athletes who will travel to Santiago, Chile to represent Canada across 14 different sports, including Para cycling, where BC’s Nathan Clement of West Vancouver and Victoria’s Mel Pemble will compete for Panam gold and qualification points for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Clement is the reigning Men’s T1 (tricycle) Road Time Trial World Champion and also won a bronze medal in the road race at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.
Mel Pemble is a two-time Para Cycling Track World Champion in the Women’s C3 Omnium and also won a silver in the scratch race and bronze in the 500m time trial at the 2023 Para Cycling Track World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Pemble also races on the road and finished 6th in the Road Race and 8th in the Time Trial at the Road World Championships in 2023.
Pemble and Clement will be joined by their Para Cycling compatriots Dahab Tarek (Beloeil, QC), Shelley Gautier (Niagara Falls, ON), Alexandre Hayward (Quispamsis, NB), Charles Moreau (Victoriaville, QC), Mike Sametz (Calgary, AB), and Keely Shaw (Midale, SK) along with the coaches and staff supporting the athletes in Santiago.
The Para Cycling – Road events will take place on November 19 & 26 and Para Cycling – Track will take place on November 23 & 24.
