Cycling BC’s MTB Team kicked off the 2015 training season this past weekend. Things got started with some fitness testing to see where everyone was and the work that needed to be done over the next few months as we prepare for Nationals.
The first test was 1 min 30 seconds and the second test was 20 minutes to see what the athletes functional threshold power was. After the athletes recovered from their 20 minute climb up 9 mile hill they headed out for a 2 hour ride on the Squamish trails before heading in for some lunch. Following lunch Charlie came by to do some meditation and yoga with the group. The athletes were able to gain some valuable tools here to incorporate into their daily training schedules as well. After a quick snack the athletes headed outside with Ben Chaddock to learn a few road bike skills. This year BC will be competing in the Western Canada Games with the athletes competing in both Road and Cross Country events, so getting some road bike experience is crucial for these Cross Country riders.
Sunday the athletes kicked off the morning in the weight room and then headed out onto the bikes to do some DH skills and training with Downhill Coach, Cory Leclerc. After lunch, athletes headed back out onto the Squamish trails to get in some more mileage. A successful first camp for sure! The next camp will be taking place February 20-22nd in Abbotsford.
