The Cycling BC Mountain Bike High Performance Team is in Lake Arrowhead, California, for a warm weather training camp–the first big MTB project of 2015. Their goals for this training camp are to:
- Increase aerobic capacity through specific volume and intensity work
- Build mental resiliency over a physically challenging camp (+5000 ft above sea level)
- Implement/refine recovery techniques
- Build team unity and gain team travel experience
- Race higher-level races and collect UCI points
The athletes are also participating in the US Cup Bonelli Park, and the Fontana City National.
A few of the athletes weigh in on their progress so far:
Yesterday was my first race of the season down at the Bonelli US Cup in San Dimas California. It was a tough one with the heat and a stacked field including last years Jr. World MTB and CX Champion. I raced hard and ended up in 5th place, this was a huge confidence boost to go into the rest of the season feeling strong. For the rest of the week we are up at Lake Arrowhead doing elevation training, and then down to the Fontana US Cup this weekend where I hope to secure another top 5 finish. A big thank you to all the sponsors and supporters that make this early season.

This year’s my first year joining the MTB team for their annual Warm Weather Training Camp in SoCal. It’s so great to have a passionate group of supporters and sponsors making these training and race opportunities possible – THANK YOU! As soon as we got to our house up 5000+ feet above sea level, the high altitude kicked in hard – just riding up the driveway was enough to spike the heart rates! On Friday we went and rode at Bonelli Park where the first XC and Super D races were and made it through the 25° heat. Saturday was race day, and BC team killed with great results in XC and Super D! After our much needed rest and re-fuel, we will have a team stretch session followed by some high altitude training rides on Sunday.

The past three days in the San Bernardino Mountains and Bonelli Park have been great. We have been doing high altitude training 5000 feet above sea level. With a Team BC podium sweep in the Junior Super D and a solid podium by Luke Di Marzo in the XC, we are off to a strong start. The rest of the camp will contain more high altitude training ending off the week at the Fontana City National DH race and the 3rd Kenda Cup XC race. Thank you to Cycling BC and their sponsors and supporters for helping making these early season training camps possible.
