The 2019 Canadian MTB XCO Championships took place at Hardwood Ski & Bike in Oro-Medonte, Ontario this past weekend and welcomed over 700 athletes from all over the country.
BC’s Catharine Pendrel [Clif Pro/Sierra Nevada] and Sandra Walter [Liv Cycling] both podiumed in the Elite Women’s race finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively while reigning national champion, Emily Batty [Trek Factory Racing], won her fourth consecutive national title. There was also a repeat national champion in the Elite Men’s division as Peter Disera [Norco Factory] continued his dominance after winning his third consecutive national championship. Peter’s younger brother, Quinton Disera [Norco Factory], took the win in the men’s Under-23 category while BC’s Holden Jones [Pendrel Racing] finished 4th, Sean Fincham 7th, and Carter Nieuwesteeg in 14th.
BC’s young riders took the top podium spots in the Junior divisions with Emilly Johnston [Pendrel Racing] winning the Junior Women’s Canadian National Championship and Carter Woods [Rocky Mountain Factory] winning in the Junior Men’s.
Other riders on the Cycling BC project, Hamish Graham [Comox Bike Co] finished with a bronze in the Junior Men’s race and Marin Lowe took silver in the U-17 women’s race. Eva Leikermoser finished 16th in U17 women, Lief Rodgers 12th in U17 men, Erik Ashton 19th in U17 men, Kieran Nilsen 15th and Cody Scott was 9th in Junior Men. Jakob Yells who was riding for the Cannondale team was 18th.
