Last week Cycling BC’s iRide program teamed up with the Royal Bank of Canada and the RBC GranFondo Whistler to introduce participants and their kids to iRide. This free event highlighted ongoing efforts made by the Royal Bank of Canada Foundation and GranFondo Canada to support the growth of iRide across the province. Thank you to both of these organizations for their support and another great year!
iRide Coordinator, Ben Chaddock, reports from Whistler:
This year’s iRide event at the RBC GranFondo Whistler was a wonderful opportunity to share our story with the participants of this event. The Royal Bank of Canada’s 2016 donation was instrumental in visiting in-need schools across the province this year, including schools in the Sea to Sky region. The success of the in-school program has been inspiring, largely in part to the support of Cycling BC’s donors. This project wouldn’t be possible without people and organizations who believe in our iRide vision and are excited to join us in the journey, and we are incredibly grateful for their support.
This event was also a great opportunity to share iRide’s new goals and programs for 2017 with gran fondo participants. After the success of our school program, iRide now sets its sights on the iRide community program with the development of extra-curricular cycling groups, engaging local parents and community leaders as coaches. Our event in Whistler aimed to illustrate how easy and fun it is to coach young riders.
I look forward to announcing the full details of this iRide Cycling Group program and our 2017 coaching grants in the near future.
