Ride Like a Girl is now accepting applications from BC athletes for the 2017 mentorship program. If you are under the age of 20 and keen to progress your downhill, enduro, cross-country or freeriding skills, you may have just what it takes to be the next athlete in the 2017 program. Ride Like a Girl will be selecting seven athletes to be matched with pro-athletes throughout the season.
Athletes selected for the program will have the opportunity to receive guidance, racing advice and have an opportunity to meet and ride with a professional athlete in their discipline. Ride Like a Girl’s mentors include well-known mountain bike athletes Katrina Strand (Enduro/Downhill), Jaime Hill (Downhill), Carolyn Kavanagh (freeride/downhill), Trish Bromley (freeride/downhill), Mical Dyck (cross-country), Katie Holden (freeriding) and Sandra Walter (cross-country). Each of the 2017 mentors are internationally accomplished athletes with experience racing world cups and national level events, and many years experience in the mountain bike industry.
“I love being a Ride Like a Girl mentor because it gives me a way to share the years and years of experience and knowledge that I’ve gained through racing. I feel it would be a shame if I couldn’t pass it on to young riders. And if some piece of advice that I give a developing athlete actually helps them, that would be awesome,” says Sandra Walter, pro cross-country racer, and nine time Canadian national team member.
Ride Like a Girl is accepting applications until February 28, 2017. Interested athletes must be under the age of 20, live in British Columbia, and have some racing/freeriding experience. Community involvement including coaching, trail building, helping with races and events, and other volunteer pursuits are an asset for applicants.
