The second race of the BC Cross-country Marathon (XCM) Premier Series took place at the Vedder Mountain Classic at Cultus Lake on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
With both a 35km long course and a shorter 15km course, participants of the Vedder Classic were treated to some of the Fraser Valley’s most spectacular trails with epic climbs, technical sections, long flowy descents, rocks, roots, and more.
Spencer Paxson from Bellingham, WA topped the Men’s Elite Division with a time of 2:18:58 on the long course while Cory Wallace from Jasper, AB and local talent, Ricky Federau of Chilliwack, took 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Michael Van Den Ham of Abbotsford and Alex Schmidt of Vancouver rounded out the top 5 of the Men’s Elite in the long course.
Carey Mark from Nanaimo finished 1st in the Women’s Elite Division with Elissa Lok from Squamish, and Mindy McCutcheon of Bellingham finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the long course.
The short course saw William Hodgins of Maple Ridge take the top spot with a time of 1:15:43 while young Geza Rodgers of Port Moody crossed the finish line at 1:32:55 to win first place overall in the women’s division.

The Vedder Mountain Classic concluded with an awards ceremony, beer garden, prizes, and an after-party.
