Cycling BC proudly announces the launch of the BC Premier Cross-Country Marathon Mountain Bike Series (BC XCM), enabling Cycling BC members to pursue their passion for Marathon or XCM style of racing with four exciting venues with challenging terrain and equally challenging off-road trails.
“Cycling BC is extremely grateful for the help of four dedicated groups to offer an exciting list of meaningful events for our members,” said Nic Tickner, Events Development Manager at Cycling BC.
Our members over the years have expressed their desire for an XCM racing series with a calendar of meaningful events featuring races that were both challenging and fun to participate in. The BC XCM Series will kick off on May 6, 2017 with the recently re-launched Vedder Mountain Classic in Chilliwack, before heading over to round 2 on the Sunshine Coast for their historic Sunshine Coaster on May 13th, 2016. Racing will resume in June with rounds 3 and 4 featuring the iconic Pemberton race, The NIMBY Fifty, and then conclude with the final series event in Squamish, BC, the newly-formed Spakwus 50, which will also be the BC Cross Country Mountain Bike Marathon Championships.
The series winners and provincial champions will receive winner’s jerseys, trophies, and be recognized at the annual Cycling BC Awards Ceremony, where they will be celebrated as the leaders in the sport throughout a broader cycling community. To be eligible for these championship categories, racers will require a BC RACE License through Cycling BC (register for your licence online here), which allows riders to apply race results to category upgrades, collect series points, and potentially race for provincial championship titles.
Tickner also noted, “the funding gained via membership and licensing is key to the support Cycling BC can provide to our stakeholders, racers and organisers to develop these racing opportunities in our province; these funds go towards developing and educating our commissaires (race officials), race support, and recognition of our winners, such as awards. This support also goes a long way towards backing development programs for BC’s skilled younger riders, supporting them for further development and representation on the national and potentially world stage, while giving them opportunities to compete at a high level at home, here in BC.”
The newly formed series was driven by member and race organizer feedback and is part of Cycling BC’s commitment to delivering an exciting racing series for each cycling discipline.
